Music By Numbers: Long Distance Calling

This week, German rockers Long Distance Calling return with their fourth full-length album – ‘Boundless’. Having experimented with a vocalist on their past two albums, ‘Boundless’, sees them return to their instrumental roots. As always, it sees the quartet of bassist Jan Hoffmann, guitarist Dave Jordan, drummer Janosch Rathmer, and guitarist Florian Füntmann coming together to create a collection of sturdy and atmospheric rock songs.

Throughout its eight tracks, Long Distance Calling weave through with precision as they deliver muscular riffs and prog-ridden grooves with hints of post-rock and post-metal bubbling underneath. Overall, ‘Boundless’ highlights the Münster quartet’s solid musicianship with effective results.

In the lead up to the release of ‘Boundless’, we spoke to guitarist Florian Füntmann to talk ‘Music By Numbers’; his favourite albums, the songs he wishes he had written, the bands he wished he could play with and more.

1 Artist I Couldn’t Live Without…

I would have to say Guns ‘N Roses because they are my all-time favourite band and got me playing the guitar.

2 People I Know, That Shaped My Passion For Music…

Definitely, my mom because she always supported me. She was the one that got me in touch with music in the first place and luckily she has a very good taste in music. Of course, I have to mention my friends from when I was a teenager. They were crazy enough to start a band with me.

3 Songs You Wish You’d Written…

There are so many great songs out there. I wish I had written; ‘Stairway to Heaven’ (Led Zeppelin), ‘Welcome to the Machine’ (Pink Floyd), and of course, ‘Welcome to the Jungle’ (Guns ‘N Roses) just to name a few.
