Today Essex powerpop group The Hype Theory release their new album ‘Captives.’    With bold, upbeat choruses and driving guitar lines, the quintet have produced an anthem-filled record brimming with confidence and plenty of energy.

We caught up with vocalist Katy Jackson for our latest edition of “If I…” The singer told us which 90’s pop group she’d like to see reform, which Florida pop-rockers she’d like to play with and much more.

If I could re-record one song it would be…
Katy Jackson: None, the imperfections are what makes them what they are.

If I could re-live one tour/show it would be…
KJ: Our Japanese Tour or Download Festival.

If I had the chance to play one venue it would be…
KJ: Brixton Academy.

If I could play with one band it would be…
KJ: Mayday Parade.

If I could play with any person living or dead it would be…
KJ: Michael Jackson.

If I could bring back any band that have split up, it would be…
KJ: Spice Girls.

If I wasn’t playing music, I would be…
KJ: A vet.

If I could play a different genre it would be…
KJ: Pure Pop – I’d be the next Taylor Swift.

If I could have written any song it would be…
KJ: ‘Bones’ by Young Guns.

If I could have written any album it would be…
KJ: Queens’ ‘Greatest Hits’ album (I’m not sure if that counts!)

If I could headline any festival, it would be…
KJ: Reading and Leeds.

If I could organise my own festival, the bands playing would be…
KJ: Mayday Parade, Limp Bizkit, Blink 182, Sleeping With Sirens, Young Guns, Deaf Havana, oh and Cascada for a laugh.

If I could play any other instrument, it would be…
KJ: Piano.

If I could give one piece of advice to a new band, it would be…
KJ: Don’t worry about what other people think of your band, you can’t please everyone.

‘Captives’ by The Hype Theory is available now on Small Town Records.
