Welcome to week 4 of something for the weekend. One month in and we’re still finding new and exciting bands – now that’s worth celebrating! This week we’ve got acoustic emo from Lake Michigan, Noisy alt rock from Broker and straight up Pop Punk from Second To Last.

If this was a party then Lake Michigan would be playing sad acoustic songs in the living room whilst Broker would be draining the keg and Second To Last try to dive from the roof into the pool. That sounds like my kind of party.

Feel free to RSVP yourself into the next SFTW by getting in touch on Richard@AlreadyHeard.com

Lake Michigan
FFO: American Football, Velvet UndergroundLake Michigan play minimal acoustic emo, inspired by the hushed and melodic sounds of Death Cab For Cutie and American Football. Any project as personal as this – naming an EP ‘Personal Shit’ sums up the introspective nature of Chris’s music – runs the risk of becoming obnoxiously self indulgent but Lack Michigan manages to effortlessly avoid that pitfall with low fi recordings and disarmingly honest lyrics. This is definitely late night music.

Broker
FFO: Daughters, Refused, and Fugazi.Broker hail from Brighton and sound like the bastard love child of Refused and Jesus Lizard. Not too much is known about this southern three piece but their brand of noisy, jaunty, slightly math-rock tinged punk rock manages to remain accessible whilst still being exciting.

FFO: Such Gold, Daggermouth, and New Found Glory. It feels like we’re on the cusp of another pop punk wave. Bands like Title Fight and Such Gold have been around long enough to influence others who, in turn, are now beginning to really find their feet. Second To Last hail from Lodi, California and play a brand of hardcore influenced pop punk that’s likely to please any fans of the previously mentioned bands. With a 7" being released by Quote Your Pulse Records and a respectable amount of live experience under their belts Second To Last could really be on to something.
