On March 5th Worcester hardcore punk band Foxfires unleash their new EP, ‘The Golden Age’, six songs of fast-paced, straight up hardcore that takes it inspiration from American Nightmare and The Suicide File.

Foxfires’ is fronted by Josh Lyford, formerly of Four Year Strong and he just so happens to be the focus for this edition of “If I…”.

As we find out Josh is certainly a fan of hardcore (and Taylor Swift) and is a strong believer of sticking to DIY ethics.

If your band would like to be featured as part of “If I…” full details can be found here.

If I could re-record one song it would be…
Josh Lyford: Any Taylor Swift song, but preferably ‘I Knew You Were Trouble.’ I don’t know why, it would be way shittier, but I could dance around and put my hair in a pony tail and people would bring me beer.

If I could re-live one tour/show it would be…
JL: Getting to go out with Comeback Kid on their tour with Propagandhi was a complete privilege. I’ll probably always remember that. Or any time I got to see old friends.

If I had the chance to play one venue it would be…
JL: I would love to play Kingston Fighting Cocks again. Awesome memories there.

If I could play with one band it would be…
JL: I’ll just go for it and say any of my favorite bands growing up, Reach the Sky, American Nightmare, The Suicide File.

If I could play with any person living or dead it would be…
JL: I would love to see what T-Model Ford could come up with in the basement we practice in.

If I could bring back any band that have split up, it would be…
JL: The Suicide File. I wish I could see them all the time.

If I wasn’t playing music, I would be…
JL: Probably what I am doing now; freelance writing, riding bmx and figuring out what the hell I’m going to do to keep paying rent.

If I could play a different genre it would be…
JL: I wouldn’t really want to be playing anything else right now, I play music all the time and I have the most fun writing hardcore songs. I’ve gotten to play other styles and it ruled, but hardcore is closest to my heart.

If I could have written any song it would be…
JL: Maybe ‘Song For Tonight’ by The Suicide File. I think this song really perfected the super dark and heavy but awesome grooving hardcore sound. The lyrics give me chills.

If I could have written any album it would be…
JL: ‘Fuel for the Hate Game’ by Hot Water Music. This band and largely this album, got me interested in the music that really shaped me later on.

If I could headline any festival, it would be…
JL: Any of the really weirdo hippy festivals. If everyone was eating acid and giant wooden men were burning in the desert, I feel like we could have something really weird to offer.

If I could organise my own festival, the bands playing would be…
JL: All of the awesome bands from the area, and some awesome bands from elsewhere. Power Trip?

If I could play any other instrument, it would be…
JL: I would love to be able to rip a mandolin. So, mandolin.

If I could give one piece of advice to a new band, it would be…
JL: Have fun. If you take everything too seriously lose what makes being in a band so fun.

‘The Golden Age’ by Foxfires is released on 5th March through Escapist Records.
