Download Festival Preview: Trash Boat

As the road to Download Festival becomes shorter by the day, we will be speaking to a whole host of acts from this years festival about what to expect from them at Download 2015.

Although Download is often see as a hard rock and metal festival, it does have it’s fair share of variety. If you’re a fan of pop punk then St Albans’ Trash Boat will be one of a handful of bands providing you with your fix of angst-filled lyrics and bouncy numbers at Download.

It’s just the latest in a line of festival appearances for the five-piece, having smashed it at the Slam Dunk Festival and Empire Festival last month. Trash Boat’s appearance at Download is a great opportunity for the young band to play in front of people they may not typically play for.

To get their thoughts on the festival, we spoke to drummer Oakley Moffatt.

AH: Why should fans check you out at Download?
Oakley: If you haven’t seen us already expect a very “fuck the barrier” approach to our shows. We want to have a good time and want you to have a good time as well. Come crowd surf or just mouth along to the one song you know, either way it’s going to be mental.

AH: What can we expect from your set?
Oakley: High energy and good times.

AH: What other bands are you looking forward to seeing?
Oakley: There’s too many to choose from I think. Definitely Slipknot and Lamb of God. Also Dragonforce and Andrew W.K because I bet they put on a badass show. Going to try and avoid the set from Roam, sick of seeing them to be honest…

AH: What are your memories of previous Download Festivals?
Oakley: This will be my first time at Download festival but one of my fondest festival memories has to be shouting “KORN” with my mates at the top of our lungs for the whole weekend. I’m not quite sure why it happened but it did, I think someone must have said they were doing a secret set and we just never let that go. But we did start the chant “What do we want? KORN, when do we want them? KOOORRRNNN”. It didn’t catch on.

AH: What advice would you give to people attending Download Festival?
Oakley: Expect to smell like ass and feel like shit the whole weekend. But you’ll probably be drunk and high so all will be good. Also take a beer bong, it will be the best decision you ever make.

AH: Do you have anything else you’d like to say?
Oakley: Just come check out our set, we know it will be early and you’ll probably be feeling like shit on that Sunday but we promise to make it a little bit better… maybe!

‘Brainwork’ EP by Trash Boat is out now on Hopeless Records.

Trash Boat will be appearing Jake’s Stage at 3:10pm on Sunday June 14th.
