Off the back of their debut full-length ‘The Evergreen Theory’, Lancashire misery mongers Today, They Are Older have returned with a new snapshot of rough-round-the-edges, bleak post-hardcore. Sporadically leaping from the most downbeat of breakdowns to the prettiest glimpses of sentimentality, the band tear at their insecurities and demons with vigor and depth, delivering 5 tracks brimming with punishing potential and razor-sharp heft.
It has to be said though, that at times between ‘Empty Eyes’ and the beautifully crushing weight of closer ‘No Guts, No Glory’ ‘Today, They Are Older’ gets a little too caught up in its own self-made chaos and starts to lose its mostly air-tight structure. Regardless, to successfully and seamlessly fly from brutality to ambience is not an easy feat, and it’s clear that Today, They Are Older are mastering it more and more with each release.
