Album Review: Save Ends – Strength Vs. Will EP

Hailing from Boston, Massachusetts and with a sound that is reminiscent of early 2000’s Vagrant Records (The Get Up Kids, Saves The Day and The Anniversary) and a mixture of male-female vocals, Save Ends bring a well-round, refreshing take on harmonious indie pop punk on ‘Strength Vs. Will.’

From the start ‘Time and Tarnish’ sets the standard with subtly emo-driven guitars nicely complimenting the duo vocal play from Christine Atturio and Brendan Cahill, a trait that is thankfully consistent throughout especially on ‘Sweet Defeat.’

Throughout ‘Strength Vs. Will’ the quintet provide comforting blasts of hook-filled emo pop punk that are well balanced and don’t lose momentum; the uplifting ‘Settling Here’ neatly gives way to the rich sounding ‘Resurrection Hub’ which also thrives off the layered duel vocal melodies.

Although the slight Tigers Jaw comparison exists here and there, its the bands bright choruses and overall clear, resonating sound that makes ‘Strength Vs. Will’ essential listen.

It wouldn’t surprise me if this unsigned band are snapped up soon, as its clearly evident from ‘Strength Vs. Will’ that Save Ends are bound for bigger things.

4.5/5
