Album Review: Portia Conn – Runaway EP

Portia Conn really is one talented 19-year-old. Her new release ‘Runaway’ offers beautiful track after beautiful track, making this EP a perfect soundtrack for a relaxed day.

Signature track ‘Runaway’ is featured twice on the four track release, treating fans to both the original and acoustic versions. The pristine harmonies and cross over vocals in the original recording give this song real character, not to mention the uplifting sound that is created overall. The acoustic version is just as outstanding, taking a more tranquil take on the track with crisper acoustics and Portia’s talents continuing to shine.

‘Little White Lies’ deserves particular praise recorded live at Egypt Lane Studios. Portia’s raw talent excels here and her peaceful sounds work fantastically as usual but this time with slightly softer acoustic guitar. ‘The Sound’ is yet another great track, keeping in tone with the peaceful nature of the record but with choruses matching the similar uplifting feel of ‘Runaway’.

Portia Conn’s talents are somewhat astounding with her soothing vocals making ‘Runaway’ a true success of a record. This short but sweet EP is near to perfect and I look forward to hearing all of Portia’s future releases if they sound anything like this.

4.5/5
