Album Review: itoldyouiwouldeatyou – I Am Not Your Fault EP

itoldyouiwouldeatyou, didn’t I? The six headed, country-spanning emo machine have been demanding your attention with their breezy and intricate sad songs since their inception in 2014. Fast forward and the band have teamed up with the brilliant Failure By Design Records to push their latest EP, ‘I Am Not Your Fault’, which, if all is good in the world, will go down as an absolute classic.

Reminiscent of the classic emo twang of the 90’s, with a lick of intelligent and infectious modernism splashed across it, ‘I Am Not Your Fault’ is the full package for any connoisseur of the sad and sultry. Like if The World Is A Beautiful Place… were raised on fish and chips rather than slam poetry sessions, the band bring delicacy and depth to their music in a wholly British way.

The opening one-two of ‘Off Brand’ and ‘Get Out Of Bed’ bring together patient build ups and brilliantly vibrant sing alongs. ‘All That Noise’ simmers with cutesy gang vocals and brash chords, and ‘Less Now’ channels American Football with sombre trumpet toots and intricate plucks before closer ‘Letters’ sees things out in true style. Short, sweet and sulky enough to please whatever level of upset you are. What more could you want?

‘I Am Not Your Fault’ is everything that is great about modern emo. Densely layered, emotionally connective and brimming with youthful angst and wit, these are five songs that will stick with you for days, months and possibly years to come. Taking influence from the greats, plucking out the dominating factors and crafting them into something that’s pretty much as good as it gets.

itoldyouiwouldeatyou are something rather special. If you have even a passing interest in alternative music, this is something you need to hear.

4/5

‘I Am Not Your Fault’ by itoldyouiwouldeatyou is released on September 23rd on Failure By Design Records.
