Album Review: Five Miles North of Nowhere – Less Talk, More Action

Five Miles North of Nowhere - Less Talk, More Action Sometimes a record needs a little time to begin to work its magic, and for me, this was the case with this punk/hardcore five piece from the thriving scene in Southampton. It took a few listens, but eventually the hard drawl vocals and dirty guitar sounds of ‘Less Talk, More Action’ really started to bed down in my subconscious.

‘Reverse the Time’ and ‘A Slice of Fried Gold’ get things rocking after the fairly pointless intro, while the stomping punk of the title track is a well-constructed number. However, as the record progresses, the songs each seem to offer up a little more; they throw a cool interlude into ‘H.V.Z’ before the frantic start to ‘Heads Up!’; which proceeds to twist and turn between shades of light and dark. Closing track and fitting finale ‘Alive’ shows the band at its best; it is a true punk rock hardcore mix with a good hook and a few ups and downs prior to the searing sing-along finale.

Although the tracks on this EP are not instant winners, 5MNON do have quite a lot to offer if you are willing to give them a chance.

3.5/5
